Raphaela Stern

Born in Hamburg in 1979, Raphaela Stern started dancing flamenco at age 15.
Still living in her hometown she took classes with visiting teachers like Rafaela Carrasco, Javier Latorre and Joaquín Ruíz,
before she moved to Seville in 2000 to study at the Fundación Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco.
- There she continued her studies with Carmen Ledesma, Manolo Soler, Milagros Menjíbar and "La Choni".
After graduation from the Fundación Raphaela Stern continued to live in Seville to intensify her studies with Miguel Vargas,
Carmen Ledesma, Úrsula López and María Ángeles Gabaldón.
- In the spring of 2004 she moved to Berlin, where she opened the Centro Flamenco Raphaela Stern in June of the same year.
There she teaches continuous classes of all levels and workshops all over Germany. She also regularly works as assistant at workshops
of visiting artists such as Miguel Vargas, Carmen Ledesma, El Torombo, etc.
- In 2005, Raphaela Stern was presented at the 10th annual Flamenco Festival in Berlin as a Promising Young Dancer.
In April of 2006 she was part of the world premier of El Torombos piece "sembrar - así sentimos" at the Flamencofestival Düsseldorf.
Since January 2007 Raphaela Stern is a member of the Compañia „alma flamenca“ led by Antonio Arrebola.
In 2007 and 2008 she performed more than 20 concerts nationwide.

- In Dember of 2008 Raphaela Stern danced under the direction of Miguel Vargas at the Gala Flamenca in the prestigeous Teatro Lope de Vega in Seville,
accompanied by Curro Ferández, Juan José Amador, Enrique El Extremeño, Miguel und Eugenio Iglesias and Joselito Carrasco.
There she got awarded „Promesa de baile 2008“ by the Fundación Antares Foro, Agencia Andaluza del Flamenco and Cajasol.
- Since January 2009 Raphaela Stern is member of the Swiss „Compañia el Contrabando.“
- Raphaela Sterns dance is full of a sensuous, playful lightness, but powerful and energetic at the same time.
Her elegant style is best reflected in her handling of the Bata de Cola. No doubt - Raphaela Stern is one of the most promising young dancers of Germany.
