A musical Journey to the roots of Flamenco
Berlin Antonio Arrebola discovered the soul of flamenco in his hometown of Málaga, Spain. There he learned his first steps of the dance style, that determines his life today. By now he is one of the best young dancers of Spain and an in demand teacher of Flamenco all over Europe.
When teaching in Germany, he gives his classes at the „Centro Flamenco“ in Berlin, which is run by Raphaela Stern. „From Antonio you can learn a very authentic style of flamenco“ says the Hamburg born dancer, who studied in Seville, where she met Arrebola.
He has been giving workshop at the „Centro Flamenco“ ever since, and started dancing together with Raphaela Stern and Sarah Marleen, who is originally from Kiel. That way they developed Alma Flamenca, a night about the soul of Flamenco. Arrebola is responsible for the choreography. „With Antonio we go for the roots of Flamenco. Regarding the particular style of the dance, we stick to the passed down tradition“, says Raphaela Stern. The three dancers are accompanied by a singer, a percussionist and the guitarist Miguel Sotelo. It is Sotelo who is responsible for the fact that the music takes many different directions: „Miguel is at home not only in Flamenco, but also in Jazz and classical music. He developed is very own style out of these elements“ says Stern. It is of great importance for her that the musicians react spontaneously to the dancers in the course of the show. „The improvisation stimulates both artforms. The inspiration is mutual that way.“
The Flamenco fan can expect a night of great Authenticity. In its course, the dancers will perform both together and solo. It is self-explanatory that the Spanish guest is going to be at the centre of attraction.
By the way, Alma Flamenco will celebrate its world premiere in Kiel!
